Where the sensors go
Place it inside the cooler or bag, near the contents—not on the lid. In the app, choose the item and, if you want alerts, set a recorded-air temperature range.
One at the bottom, one under the lid of a chest cooler — the two ends of the story. A case that packs warm on one side gets one sensor per side instead.
You tell the app what each sensor rides with — a cooler, a lunch box — and you can rebind it to a different thing any time.

What happens when no gateway or phone is nearby?
The sensor keeps recording. The app shows when it last received a reading instead of presenting an old reading as current. A nearby gateway—or your phone while the app is open—can send current readings. To import readings stored on the sensor, open the app and choose Sync trip; any gaps remain visible until the import succeeds.
Do I need a gateway?
On the go, your phone can send current readings while the app is open. At home, a nearby gateway can do this without opening the app. To import readings stored on the sensor, choose Sync trip in the app.
