Where it goes
Pair it with at least one sensor puck, then plug it into the outlet the appliance already uses — the appliance plugs into the gateway, the gateway into the wall. The bare gateway cannot monitor an appliance by itself.

Questions
When do I need a second one?
When sensors live out of Bluetooth range of your first gateway — a garage fridge, a basement freezer, a different floor. The gateway ships without a sensor, so pair it with at least one sensor puck. Within one room, one gateway hears every paired sensor nearby.
Does this back up an appliance I already monitor?
No. A second gateway does not currently serve as backup for an appliance. If the assigned gateway loses power, live monitoring stops. ColdMinder checks every five minutes and marks monitoring paused after 20 minutes without a report.
Does Trace need one?
A Trace sensor can send current readings through any nearby gateway you own, or through your phone while the app is open. To import readings stored on the sensor, open the app and choose Sync trip.
