Fit and limits

Where it fits—and where it does not.

A temperature monitor is useful only when its power, connection, measurements, and legal limits match the job. Here are the cases people ask about most.

Renters

No holes or wiring.

The sensors sit inside the appliance and the gateway plugs into a standard outlet, so installation does not modify the apartment.

A frozen ColdMinder temperature record can be evidence of what its sensors measured, including gaps. It is not a legal instrument, a certified inspection, or proof of who caused a problem.

Off-grid & RV

Connected power is the dividing line.

Home monitoring needs a 120V outlet and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. ColdMinder has no cellular connection.

Trace can send live readings through a nearby phone only while the ColdMinder app is open in the foreground. This is not a fit yet for an off-grid site with no outlet or Wi-Fi, or for unattended travel that needs guaranteed continuous remote coverage.

Medication & insulin

Recorded air temperatures only.

ColdMinder is a monitoring aid, not a medical device, and does not give medical advice. It cannot tell you whether medication is safe to use.

Only your pharmacist, prescriber, or the manufacturer can tell you whether medication that got too warm, too cold, or frozen is still safe. A gap means no reading was received—not that nothing happened.

Wine

Temperature and humidity, clearly.

A sensor can monitor temperature and relative humidity inside a wine fridge or cellar, and history can show how those readings changed over time.

ColdMinder does not monitor vibration or light exposure today. If either matters to your collection, add a monitor designed for it.

Specialist uses

Keezer & kegerator ready

Watches chest freezers, keezers, and kegerators — use two sensors, with one low in the cabinet as a floor witness. Temperature control is in development and is not part of the current release; fermentation ramps are not supported.

Still a fit? Choose the number of temperature points you need. One sensor measures one location, not every part of the appliance.
